The 5-year-old boy rescued from the water near Glacier Creek after his mother frantically called emergency dispatchers has died.
According to Alaska State Trooper spokesperson Megan Peters, the young boy died around 9 a.m. Sunday morning.
A search effort by Girdwood fire crews and troopers was begun after the boy's mother discovered him missing Friday when she turned around after helping another child into a car seat. Airborne spotters and a swiftwater team were deployed, and once found, the boy was airlifted to Providence Hospital for treatment.
"We are not releasing the name of the boy," Peters said Sunday. "And no further investigation into this incident has been announced at this time."
Peters reported that the family of the boy will be donating his organs.
