ANCHORAGE -

As the Iditarod’s mushers head towards Willow for the official restart of the race, local law enforcement is keeping a close watch on drivers.

In a release Friday, AST Spokeswoman Megan Peters encouraged locals to drive safely amidst the ongoing weekend events, and warned that extra troopers and police would be patrolling the streets looking for distracted, aggressive, and impaired drivers.

Several tweets on the APD Public Info account (@APDInfo) noted that many DUIs from the past week were double and even triple the legal limits. The highest BrAC noted by police was .336, which is four times the legal limit.
