A Ninilchik fire Friday afternoon fully engulfed a two-story home and a nearby motorhome, according to Alaska State Troopers.

AST spokesperson Megan Peters says Ninilchik firefighters and other area fire departments responded to the blaze on Oil Well Road. Alaska Division of Forestry crews also responded after the fire spread to nearby woods.

Howie Kent with the Division of Forestry says about five acres have burned near the house fire, with three Forestry fire engines and a helicopter fought the flames in the woods.  Loads of fire retardant were dropped on the fire shortly after 4:30 p.m.

The Division of Forestry says the fire was contained at around 8:20 p.m. Friday, but fire crews planned to stay remain on-scene through the night.

Peters says nobody was reported to be in the structures, but that firefighters can’t confirm that until the fire is extinguished.
