No Tsunami Warning for Earthquake near Aleutian Islands (West Coast & Alaska Tsunami Warning Center / December 14, 2012) |
A moderate size quake struck Friday evening near the Aleutian Islands and a tsunami was not expected, according to the Alaska Tsunami Center.
Seismologists' preliminary report of the quake was at magnitude 5.9 and had a depth of 20.5 miles about 75 miles southwest of Shemya, Alaska.
There were no initial reports of damage when the quake happened around 7:49 p.m.
