Earthquake near Anchorage (West Coast and Alaska Tsunami Warning Center / December 3, 2012) |
Southcentral Alaska residents felt a moderate size earthquake Monday afternoon centered near Anchorage and a tsunami is not expected, according to the Alaska Tsunami Center.
Seismologists' preliminary report of the quake was at magnitude 5.7 and had a depth of 33 miles about 25 miles west of Anchorage.
The quake's magnitude was revised to 5.8.
The quake struck around 4:42 p.m. Alaska time and could be in areas surrounding Southcentral including Palmer and areas in the Mat-Su Valley.
There were intial reports of damage.
