The federal National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration says catch limits adopted by the International Whaling Commission for the next six years are sustainable.
Over the proposed time period, Alaska Eskimos and Russian natives can take 306 bowhead whales, with Alaska Eskimos allowed to strike 82 bowheads.
Due to the regulatory process, an official decision is not scheduled until next month. After that time, NOAA will sign the paperwork to make it official.
The Alaska Eskimo Whaling Commission will manage the hunts.
