A Nome Runway was reopened  after The Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities called an emergency closure to repair a large dip in the runway.

Runway 10-28 was opened at 3 p.m. on Thursday after completing necessary repairs.

The DOT &PF said the repairs were required about every 5 years due to unstable soils causing a reoccuring dip in the runway.

Officials say they are optimistic that the repair means they will not have to return in 5 years to fix the problem.
