Aberdeen: Mass of Christian Burial for Florence Lucy Beck, 97, of Aberdeen, will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 9, 2011, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 502 Second Avenue S.E., Aberdeen, with Father Shane Stevens officiating.
Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery. Schriver's Memorial Mortuary and Crematory, 414 Fifth Avenue N.W., Aberdeen is in charge of arrangements.
Liturgical wake service will be 7 p.m. Thursday, September 8, 2011, at the mortuary.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary and one hour prior to the Mass on Friday at the church.
Florence passed away Monday, September 5, 2011, at Avera Mother Joseph Manor Retirement Community, Aberdeen. Blessed be her memory.
Florence Lucy Simon was born August 10, 1914, to Louis and Anna (Nehl) Simon at Hoven, SD. She attended school at St. Anthony's Parochial School until the eighth grade. Florence and her sister Hilda moved to Gettysburg, SD, in the 1930s.
Florence was united in marriage to Scott Beck on November 21, 1936, in Gettysburg. This marriage was blessed with two children, Carolyn and Michael. The family resided in Gettysburg until 1944, when they moved to Aberdeen. Florence was employed as a cafeteria worker at St. Luke's Hospital for many years. She continued to make Aberdeen her home until the time of her death.
Florence was a very kind and loving person, with a deep spiritual faith who always put the joys and sorrows of others before her own.
Surviving Florence are her children, Carolyn Beck of Fort Myers, FL, and Michael (Sharon) Beck of Aberdeen; one grandson, Scott Beck of Minneapolis, MN; and several nieces and nephews.
Florence was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Scott; three brothers, Tony, Raymond and Robert Simon; and five sisters, Sister Miriam Simon O.S.B., Agnes Jax, Margaret Hilsendager, Elsie Hollinghead and Hilda Wise.
