David Vietor (March 5, 2013) |
Visitation will be 5:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the church.
Dave passed away Sunday, March 3, 2013, at his rural Britton residence at age 72.
David Mark Vietor was born Aug. 27, 1940, at Sibley, Iowa, to Egbert and Evelyn (Hayenga) Vietor. He grew up on the family farm and attended rural elementary school. He was baptized and made his confession of faith at Trinity Reformed Church in Sibley. In 1959, Dave graduated from Sibley High School. He continued his education at Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa, for the next two years.
In 1961, Dave took a job with a beef packing plant, where he worked for several months. He then began farming on his own in the Sibley area. He raised soybeans, corn and alfalfa, in addition to dairy cattle.
On June 7, 1963, Dave was united in marriage with Donna Marie Symens at Amherst. They made their home on the farm near Sibley. They remained there until 1969, when they moved their family to a farm southwest of Britton. Dave was still active in the operation of the farm at the time of his death.
Dave was a member of Zion Reformed Church in Amherst. While living in Iowa, Dave had served as a Sunday school and catechism teacher and had been a board member at both churches. He also served on the boards of Lowell Township, the Amherst Coop Elevator and Cenex in Britton.
Dave loved farming and made a great effort to be the first one in the tractor seat each morning. He also enjoyed hunting. He loved being around kids and had just recently commented that his grandchildren had brought great joy into his life. Dave truly loved the Lord and lived each day of his life reflecting that love.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife of 49 years, Donna Vietor of Britton; his three children: Steven (Dinah) Vietor of Amherst, Lynn (Steven “Gus”) Lawson of McMinnville, Ore., and Douglas (Amy Jo) Vietor of Britton; five grandchildren: Meagan Vietor, Emily Getty Lawson, Claire Lawson, Abby Lawson and Chaz Vietor; a brother, James (Marilyn) Vietor; his in-laws: Janet Symens, Sharon Kurtz, James and Dorothy Miller, Fred and Phyllis Sletten, Ron and Kathy Symens and Raymond and Dee Symens; and many nieces, nephews and their families.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his stepmother, Greta (Risius) Vietor; a granddaughter, Allison Vietor; his parents-in-law, Edwin and Dora Symens; a brother-in-law, Richard Symens; and sister-in-law, Joyce Symens.
