June O. Gavin, 90, of Mitchell and formerly of Redfield, died Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013, at Avera Brady Nursing Home in Mitchell. Her funeral will be Friday, March 1, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at the First Congregational UCC Church in Redfield. The Rev. Tim Fugman will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in Redfield. Visitation will be Thursday from 1 to 7 p.m. at Thelen Funeral Home in Redfield.
June Opal Gavin was born June 10, 1922, to James and Retta (Baily) Gavin at home in Redfield. She graduated from Redfield High School in 1940 and moved, with her family, to Athol until 1956, when they moved back to Redfield. June worked for the Eastside Grocery Store, Wilson Brothers Redi Mix and Spink County Highway Department. She also was the caregiver for her parents. In 2012, she moved to the Avera Brady Nursing Home in Mitchell.
June enjoyed watching the clouds, bird watching, being outside, her dogs, “Pooch” and “Pup,” sewing and solving puzzles.
She was a member of the First Congregational UCC Church in Redfield.
June is survived by her nieces and nephews; great-nieces and -nephews and their families.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers: Omar and Orville “Runt”; her sister, Florence “Cinnie” Royalty; and several nieces and nephews.
