John A. "Skip" Theisen, 74, of Mackinaw City, passed away Thursday, Oct. 4, 2012, at Mackinac Straits Health System in St. Ignace.
Skip was born Sept. 26, 1938, the second son of Matthew and Esther (Swanson) Theisen, and was a resident of Mackinaw City and Carp Lake for most of his life, his family having moved from Evanston, Ill., when he was 8. He moved in 2004 to Illinois for a few years but returned to the area that he loved in 2008.

He served on the Carp Lake Township Board and Volunteer Fire Department, U.S. Forest Service, Civil Air Patrol and was a member of the Lions Club.
Skip enjoyed his animals and always had a dog by his side.
He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents, his parents and his infant brother Matthew.
He is survived by an aunt, Vera Swanson, of Rockton, Ill.; his cousin, Patricia (Ed) Dare-Laurent; and cousins around the world. His many, many friends will miss him.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12, at the Nordman-Christian Funeral Home, 302 S. Huron St., Cheboygan, Mich.
The funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, with visitation beginning at 10 a.m., also at the funeral home. Burial will be at Carp Lake Township Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Skip's family, the Carp Lake Township Fire Department, or the Emmet County Veterans Affairs.
