A pedestrian died Tuesday evening after being hit in a low-speed collision in midtown, according to the Anchorage Police Department.
Police said that 64-year-old Hymie James Castro, who went by James, was taken to a local hospital and died after being hit around noon near the intersection of Northern Lights and C Street.
APD said that a 68-year-old woman was driving a Subaru Forrester and making a right-hand turn out of the Wells Fargo parking lot onto C Street when she hit Castro. Police said the vehicle sustained minor damage to the hood.
According to medics, Castro was sitting up and talking at the scene and his injuries appeared to be non-life threatening.
An autopsy will be performed by the State Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the exact cause of death.
