State phone company regulators are endorsing a plan to halt automatic distribution of residential phone directories in four urban Alaska areas.

The Regulatory Commission of Alaska on Friday agreed with recommendations to stop automatic distribution of white page directories.

Administrative law Judge John Wood in October ruled that information in phone books can be found on the Internet.

He said distribution of printed directories had become a source of customer frustration.

State regulations previously have required distribution of white page directories. Alaska Communications in 2011 asked the regulatory commission to change that rule.

The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reports commissioners endorsed the change for deliveries on a three-year interim basis in Fairbanks, Anchorage, Juneau and the Kenai Peninsula.
