A Pilot Point man was sentenced Wednesday in Anchorage court for shooting, raping, and killing his aunt.
Bryon Kalmakoff received 40 years in prison with 20 suspended for second degree murder in the death of 27-year-old Brenda Lee Kalmakoff.
Byron was 15-years-old at the time of the crime and prosecutors said he shot his aunt twice in the head, and while she was still alive, he raped her, before leaving her to freeze.
He was originally found guilty in 2002, but in 2010, the State Supreme Court ordered a new trial after finding violations of his Miranda Rights during interviews.
A judge originally gave Kalmakoff 75 years behind bars with 50 suspended before the State Supreme court reversed the convictions and a new trial was ordered.
