Voters at Election Central (November 6, 2012)

By-the-numbers, there were less Alaska voters in this year’s Presidential election when compared to 2008’s election, but on the plus side, there was an increase in registered voters.

Alaska has been traditionally a Republican state and the popular vote carried out those results with the Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan ticket getting 55 percent of the votes and 41 percent going to President Barack Obama and VP Joe Biden who will return to the White House for a second term.

As of 2:15 a.m. Wednesday, the Division of Elections reported that 44 percent of registered voters casted ballots with about 99 percent of the precincts reporting its election results.

Here are the 2012 numbers compared to 2008:

2008: Registered Voters 495,731 - Cards Cast 327,341: 66.03% [Official Results]

2012: Registered Voters 506,432 - Cards Cast 221,568: 43.75% [Unofficial Results]

Division of Elections Director Gail Fenumiai said in an email that 32,951 absentee by mail ballots were mailed and the state received over 22,000 early votes as of Tuesday. The state also received over 10,000 absentee in person ballots, over 180 special needs absentee ballots, over 300 absentee by fax ballots, and over 2,400 online absentee ballots.
