U.S. Sen. Mark Begich is hosting a forum Thursday on potential markets for Alaska's natural gas, including Hawaii and Japan.

Begich's office says the discussion will include industry and government experts, and highlight the challenges that remote areas of Alaska and Hawaii face in bringing natural gas to homes or businesses.

Federal gas line coordinator Larry Persily and representatives from Hawaiian Electric Company and the Hawaii lieutenant governor's office are among those expected to attend.

The forum is one of several events Begich has planned in Alaska this week. On Friday, he is scheduled to speak at the Alaska Military Youth Academy graduation, a Rotary luncheon and the Arctic Imperative Summit.
