In a press conference Monday, campaign manager Paul Bauer said Miller contends there was absolutely no personal scandal, and that he resigned voluntarily.
Bauer said the allegations against Miller are the result of collusion between the borough and supporters of Sen. Lisa Murkowski, who have broken the law by leaking information from Miller's confidential personnel file. He also says Miller's ineligibility for re-hire at the FNSB is temporary.
"He's eligible for re-hire in a few because of the short notice of the resignation," Bauer said. "It was a technical violation that he was not aware of at the time. But given the circumstance, Mr. Miller is protesting that, and there is an e-mail in there that shows that."
"You look at the Tea Party's embellishment of his resume; you look at the fact he left that seven years off of his resume being the assistant attorney for the Fairbanks North Star Borough," said Murkowski campaign spokesperson Steve Wackowski. "I think Alaskans need to ask themselves: ‘If this guy isn't even eligible to be rehired by the Fairbanks North Star Borough, do we really want to hire him as our next United States Senator?'"
Miller was not at his press conference Monday.
