A registered sex offender is accused of raping a woman near Kodiak.
The Kodiak Daily Mirror says the 26-year-old woman told authorities Robert Zoellner Jr. of Kodiak said she owed him after he bought minutes for her cell phone.
Court documents say the 32-year-old Zoellner picked the woman up Dec. 18 in the Bells Flats area and on their way to Kodiak, they stopped near the Bushkin River campground.
The court papers say Zoellner demanded sex, tried to kiss the woman, then started to choke her when she refused. Authorities say the woman lost consciousness and also was punched in the face and sexually assaulted.
Zoellner, who is charged with sexual assault and assault, was convicted of attempted criminal sexual conduct in Michigan in 1999.
