Juneau utility officials say work on a new transformer at an elementary school caused a power outage in the Auke Bay area.

KINY says power has been restored to area customers following an outage that occured Thursday morning.

Deb Ferreira of Alaska Electric, Light and Power says workers were energizing a transformer at the Auke Bay School when a circuit opened in the process.

Ferreira says that caused the feeder to open and knock out power in the area.

The problem was isolated and power was soon restored for all customers.

According to Ferreira, about 950 utility customers were affected.

Classes resume Monday at the school, which is not in session because of the holiday break.
