A Seward man was killed Monday late afternoon in a boating incident near 20 Mile River, according to Alaska State Troopers.
Troopers said the body of Harold Moore, 69, was recovered after he was boating with Ronald Cone, 55, and Nathan Cone, 29, both from Anchorage. The father and son survived, according to Beth Ipsen, Alaska State Troopers spokesperson.
The three men were boating up 20 Mile River when the boat overturned about 4.5 miles upriver from the Seward Highway. The 16-foot aluminum boat became stuck on a log and the rear of the boat filled with water, and sunk the boat, according to a troopers dispatch posted Tuesday morning.
The Cones made it to shore and reported seeing Moore float down river.
Troopers said Harold Moore was wearing a flotation suit and Ronald Cone was wearing a personal floatation device and Nathan Cone was not wearing any type of floatation device.
Two troopers and a U.S. Forest Service Officer responded and found Moore’s body while en route to rescue the Cones.
Moore’s body was sent to the State Medical Examiner’s office for autopsy.
The Cones reported no injuries and were evaluated by medics and declined further medical attention.
