BETHEL, Alaska—
Public hearings are planned Thursday in Bethel and Hooper Bay to discuss sex trafficking in Alaska.
KYUK reports the hearings are being conducted by the state Task Force on the Crimes of Human Trafficking, Prostitution and Sex Trafficking.
Organizers say the intent is to inform people about the dangers young Alaska Native women face, especially those from western Alaska.
The Hooper Bay hearing, at the local Tribal Council Building, will begin at 11:30 a.m. Thursday. Anyone may participate in the hearing over the phone by calling 1-800-315-6338 and entering the password 3600.
The Bethel hearing is set for 3:30 p.m. at City Hall in the council chambers.
