SITKA, Alaska—
A Sitka woman on a camping trip died in an accidental shooting.
The Daily Sitka Sentinel reports 31-year-old Amber Peterson was killed Sunday as she handled a rifle.
Sitka police say Peterson was with one of her brothers on a kayak trip Saturday and they pulled into Samsing Cove because of bad weather.
A day later, as Peterson was loading her kayak and her brother gathered gear, he heard a gunshot.
Sitka police took a 911 on the incident at 10:34 a.m.
Alaska Wildlife Troopers transported two police investigators and a patrol officer to the campsite by boat.
Amber Peterson was pronounced dead at the scene.
The long-time Sitka resident was the mother of three sons.
