KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- A federal jury in the third day of deliberating the Sarah Palin e-mail hacking case has told the judge they are deadlocked on one charge after reaching unanimous decisions on three counts.
The deadlocked charge is identity theft.
U.S. District Judge Thomas Phillips told the jurors Thursday they could deliberate longer or go ahead and announce the three verdicts on charges of wire fraud, unauthorized access to a computer and obstruction of justice.
The jury then went behind closed doors again, eventually adjourning in the afternoon. They will return on Friday.
Former University of Tennessee student David Kernell is charged with breaking into the e-mail while Palin was the Republican vice presidential candidate in 2008.
He faces up to 50 years in prison if convicted of all charges.
