With just one day to go before Gov. Sarah Palin's transition of power in Fairbanks, she spent the afternoon at the second of three Governor's Picnics around the state.

Saturday's event at the Park Strip ended around 3 p.m.

About 8,000 people were expected to attend.

Those attending the picnic expecting to hear a long farewell address might have walked away disappointed. There was no talk of her own political future - but she did talk about lunch.

"The only thing standing between you and food would be us, so we'll keep this very short so we can all enjoy," said Palin.

In her few minutes at center stage, she said goodbye to her supporters.

"I hope to get to shake as many hands as possible," said Palin. "And tell you from the bottom of my heart how much I thank you, and love you, and I say God bless Alaska and God bless America."

Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell said a few words as well.

"I can tell you that Sarah Palin is a good, an honorable, and a decent human being who loves Alaska, loves Alaskans, and she is going to continue standing up for you," said Parnell. "So let's give Governor Sarah Palin a warm Anchorage thank you."

After the speeches, picnic attendees waited in line for more than an hour to be served by the outgoing and incoming governors.

"I think she has a very good career, a promising career -- I hope she pursues it," said picnic attendee Rob Pelliccia. "She represents the people well."

Others said Palin's exit signifies a larger message in Alaskan and American politics.

"I think the message is loud and clear -- that if you are an ordinary citizen, you need not apply for public office -- that you can be run out by harassment from all angles," said Barbara Clinton.

Palin will do it all again Sunday in Fairbanks for one final time.

As far as dealing with the press, Palin spent the entire time with her supporters serving up hot dogs and burgers.

She didn't take any questions from the media Saturday -- the day before she steps down as governor.
