The Sterling Highway has been closed Friday night after a head-on collision at Mile 87 that injured all three people in the two vehicles involved, according to Alaska State Troopers.

AST spokesperson Megan Peters says the crash happened at Mile 87 of the Sterling, near Robinson Loop Road between Sterling and Soldotna. One of the injured occupants has been medevaced by helicopter, while medics are working on getting the other two people en route to hospitals.

Peters says troopers are diverting traffic in the area as they investigate the crash.

“The highway is closed, but they’re able to route traffic around (the crash site),” Peters said.

The state Department of Transportation’s website estimates the highway will be closed until 10 p.m., but Peters anticipated it reopening sooner.
