JUNEAU, Alaska—
A portrait of the late-U.S. Sen. Ted Stevensis expected to be unveiled at the Alaska State Museum Friday evening.The $11,000 painting was commissioned by the Alaska Legislature's Legislative Council. It will hang on the second floor of the state Capitol.
Stevens was beloved in Alaska for his ability to bring home projects and federal funds during his 40 years in the U.S. Senate. He died in a plane crash in 2010.
Rep. Cathy Munoz says the idea for the portrait came from a Juneau resident, who envisioned a Stevens' portrait among those of former Sens. Bob Bartlett and Ernest Gruening at the statehouse.
Munoz, in a release, says the portrait, by Dean Larson, also inspired an exhibit and video honoring Stevens at the museum.
