Alaska Gov. Sean Parnell plans to mark Sen. Ted Stevens Day in Anchorage next week, on what would have been the late U.S. senator's 87th birthday.

Parnell spokeswoman Sharon Leighow says members of Stevens' family also are expected on hand at the Performing Arts Center as speakers commemorate his life.

Parnell announced Nov. 18 would be commemorated following Stevens' death in a plane crash that also killed four others in Southwest Alaska in August.

Stevens served 40 years in the Senate and is revered in the state for bringing home billions of federal dollars in aid and projects.
