Two mushers have scratched from the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race.

Race spokeswoman Erin McLarnon says Jason Mackey, who was attempting to join his brothers Rick and Lance, and father Dick, as champions, had to scratch Tuesday.

The Wasilla musher has the flu, and scratched at the Unalakleet checkpoint.

Another Wasilla musher, Rudy Demoski Sr., also scratched at Unalakleet out of concern for his dogs. He made the decision when he was down to a nine-dog team.

Sixty-six teams took part in the ceremonial start of the race on March 2 in Anchorage. Since then, eight teams have scratched.
