FAIRBANKS, Alaska—
The University of Alaska Fairbanks has hired a former Army officer to work as an advocate for military veterans on campus.Phil Hokenson will be a liaison for veterans to university services and to services around Fairbanks, including Veterans Administration benefits.
Hokenson was hired in December and helped open a new Veterans Resource Center in the Eielson Building on campus.
Both the center and Hokenson's job are part of a partnership between UAF and the Vietnam Veterans of America.
Hokenson says in a release that his role will be to help veterans get the resources they need to be successful in the classroom.
