ANCHORAGE, Alaska—
A Valdez man was seriously injured in a snowmachine crash on the Richardson Highway Monday night, according to Alaska State Troopers.Troopers responded just after 7:45 p.m. Monday to Mile 79 of the Richardson, where 41-year-old Christopher Latham had been driving a 2002 Polaris 550 snowmachine south in the northbound lane before hitting a snow berm on the east side of the highway.
Latham, who was not wearing a helmet, was pinned beneath the snowmachine until passing motorists stopped and lifted the vehicle off of him. He was taken to Crossroads Emergency Medical Center in Glennallen before being transferred to Providence Alaska Medical Center, where he remained in serious condition Wednesday afternoon.
Troopers are investigating the crash, and say alcohol was a factor.
