Two Colony High School students will perform in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City.
Gina Aki is a senior and a flute player, and Ryan Brehmer is a junior who plays the clarinet.
Both auditioned for the Macy’s Great American Marching Band, and were chosen from among hundreds of other students from throughout the country.
“I think it’s amazing and it’s a once-in-a-lifetime thing,” Brehmer said. “It’s very cool, if you want to say very cool.”
They leave Friday and will begin practicing on Saturday with the other band members for the parade on Thursday.
The route is about two miles long and has about 3.5 million spectators in New York City, with an additional 50 million television viewers.
“I was hoping I had a shot,” Aki said. “It’s my last year and I’ve always dreamed about being in this parade.”
Channel 2 will air coverage of the parade from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day.
