Alaska State Troopers are looking into an officer involved shooting.

It happened Saturday about 12:30 in the morning on Wolverine Ave. in Wasilla.

Troopers say they got a call from a couple on Wolverine Ave. telling them there were armed intruders outside of their home.

When AST arrived they heard gun shots from inside the home and saw one of the homeowners, 56 year-old Russell Tanner leaping from a second story balcony with a gun.

One trooper fired one shot.

When troopers finally got to Tanner they realized he’d been shot in the elbow.

Troopers never did find any armed intruders.

Tanner was taken to the hospital and after he was released he was arrested for misconduct involving a weapon.

The shooting is now under investigation and the officer involved, whose name is being withheld for now, is on administrative leave.

Capt. Hans Brinke, commander of the Mat-su Detachment said he can’t comment on the investigation but did say past history dictates if the shooting is valid.

“State Troopers or any other law enforcement members, when presented with a situation where a weapon or danger is being presented to themselves or to others, actions may be taken.” Brinke said.
