High temperatures in the Mat-Su have prompted more glacial melt filling the Matanuska River, further eroding the banks along the town of Butte. Wednesday night, one home teetered over the riverbank, half submerged in the Matanuska.
The home belongs to Chris Wenner of Butte. He was planning on using it as a rental property, while he lived in the main home.
But several weeks ago, the eroding banks along the Matanuska made it clear Wenner would have to leave both his main home and his second house.
Wenner reported trouble getting his flood insurance company to pay for some of the damages caused by the eroding land, but his insurance company, Country Financial, told Channel 2 that it is administering the insurance program according to the guidelines of FEMA, the federal agency that provides the flood insurance.
