A school aide was injured in a single-vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon when a small school bus with no students on board drove off the Parks Highway and rolled into a ditch in Wasilla, according to local police.
Wasilla Police Department Sgt. Chris Watchus says the bus was headed south on the Parks at about 2 p.m., with only the aide and a driver on board, when it left the road near the highway’s intersection with Kenai Supply Road.
No information was immediately available on the severity of the aide’s injuries.
A photo of the crash taken by a Channel 2 viewer shows several firefighters gathered around the bus, lying on its side with its doors open.
The Mat-Su Borough School District said in a Tuesday statement that the bus didn't belong to the borough, and was instead being used by the CCS Early Learning Center for a Head Start preschool program.
The cause of the crash is under investigation, and Watchus says more information will be released later this week.
