Wasilla police responded Monday afternoon to a two-vehicle collision on the Parks Highway that left five people injured, one of whom was flown to Anchorage, and temporarily closed the highway’s eastbound lanes.
According to a statement from WPD spokesperson Kathy Johnson, police were called at about 12:50 p.m. to the intersection of the Parks and Knik-Goose Bay Road, which becomes Main Street north of the intersection.
“A vehicle driven by Paul Owens Jr., age 33 failed to yield to a vehicle driven by Cassidy Moffet, age 18,” Johnson wrote.
Police say one of the drivers and three passengers from the same vehicle were taken to Mat-Su Regional Medical Center, while one of the passengers involved in the crash was flown by air ambulance to Providence Alaska Medical Center.
Johnson said the highway’s eastbound lanes were closed by the crash but later reopened, with investigators withholding further details on the incident as of Monday afternoon.
