Wasilla community members began fundraising and working with Midnight Sun Service Dogs to get a new medical service dog after 8 year old Wyatt Reinhart's dog "Abby" was discovered dead on Friday.

Reinhart, who has autism, worried he would never see his dog again in an interview about a week ago. Unfortunately, he was right.

Reinhart's family worried the dog had been stolen from their yard, but soon discovered Abby was no longer alive.

Wyatt's big sister, Jamie, said they had found the dog close to their home at a nearby lake and it appeared that she had drowned.

Wasilla residents have been working to raise money to provide a new service dog for Wyatt through the Midnight Sun Service Dogs organization.

The organization says it has been in contact with Wyatt's mother, hoping to begin the lengthy process to getting a dog donated for her son. They said the community has been fundraising to help cover the cost of vet care and food for the new dog for the first year.
