The support of Advance Auto Parts for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation is about a lot of money and much more.
25 million Americans have incurable type 1 diabetes. Former CEO of Advance Auto Parts Nick Taubman has helped ensure the company's support for finding a cure. "It's a terrible, terrible disease and one that eats away at you all of your life, you have to be very, very careful," Taubman said last week.
The current CEO of Advance Auto, Darren Jackson, is proud of what his company has done and is doing to raise awareness and offer financial support to the research foundation. "The organization has raised $35-million dollars and so when you have a group of people come together and understand they make a difference in people's lives and that cause touches so many people."
Jackson told WDBJ7's Hollani Davis during an interview last week, that 100 million customers visit Advance Autos 3500 stores each year. That's 100 million chances to tell people about type 1 diabetes. "Each year 100 million customers pass through our doors and I think about our sneaker event and those sneakers we sell in our stores. Not only are we raising money, we're raising awareness in terms of making a difference."
To date the $35-million dollars worth of support Advance Auto has provided makes it the largest single corporate donor to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
