Governor Bob McDonnell created the Task Force of School and Campus Safety following the shootings last month at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut.

Blacksburg Delegate Joseph Yost is one of the members from western Virginia.

“The Governor has the idea of doing recommendations by the end of January, because if we have legislation he wants to have it enacted right away,” Yost said. “I'm sure we're going to be looking at a lot of different things, whether it's gun control, whether it's mental health issues, safety in both our K-12 schools and our higher education.”

McDonnell has asked the group to review a range of issues including safety procedures, threat assessments and crisis management plans.
