At Doctors Express in Roanoke, it has already started.
"We had a couple cases of the flu about a month ago. And in the past week, actually just yesterday, we had 3-more cases," says Dr Serge Depret-Guillaume.
The flu virus is alive and well, and this year it's getting a headstart.
If you've never had it, consider yourself lucky.
"It's really a sudden onset. Sorta like a train hit ya," explains Depret-Guillaume.
... A train, coupled with severe symptoms.
"Aching all over, kinda an intense ache, headache, dry cough and high fevers."
While, the flu shot doesn't guarantee you won't get the virus, doctors say it's the best way to protect yourself.
"Big thing to remember is a flu vaccine is helpful to prevent the flu or to make it less severe," says Dr Serge Depret-Guillaume.
The CDC estimates at least 112-million people have received the flu shot.
The flu can be deadly, especially to the very young and very old.
