When a natural disaster strikes our region can you be certain your pet will survive?

Leaders in one local county believe they have the answer to keep you and your pet safe when bad weather strikes.

Henry County now has an animal shelter on wheels.

The pet safety trailer houses necessities like food, crates, a generator and dog tags if the pet is separated from its owner.

It is one of only eight in the state and can help up to 40 animals.

"We realized there are times when people are expected to go to a shelter and they have no where else to take their pet and this would save their life and that of their pet's also," said the Director of Henry County's Department of Public Safety Dale Wagoner.

Henry County bought the trailer in response to Hurricane Katrina.

Several people died because they refused to leave their pets.
