SALEM, Va.—
Coming off their first series win of the young season, the Salem Red Sox welcomed the club with the best record in the Carolina League to Salem on Monday night. That would be the Hillcats at 7-2 so far. Major leaguer Rich Hill pitched the first inning, still on rehab from Boston.
Top of the 2nd, and it was already 1-nothing Salem. Carson Blair ripped a double that to deep centerfield, and would eventually score to make it 2-zip Sox.
Salem pitcher Keith Couch went six frames, with seven strikeouts, and did not allow a run.
In the fifth, back-to-back doubles from the Sox gave them a 3-0 lead.
Salem went on to win, 5-0.
