Talk about burning the midnight oil.
Many stores in our area are staying open till midnight this week.
They include Target, JCPenney, Sears, Kmart, Kohl's, Macy's, and Toys 'R' Us.
Belk will join them beginning Wednesday.
Stores like HHGregg and Best Buy are staying open till 11 P.M. this week.
We heard mixed reactions from shoppers about the later hours.
"I think I will be in bed. I don't think I'll be here at midnight," said Brenda Foster.
"You shop later at night, not that many people here. You can get what you want and get out," said Frank Henry.
"I think that's good for the last minute procrastinators because a lot of people do wait until last minute to get Christmas items," said Jamie Jackson.
Why are stores staying open so late? The General Manager of Valley View Mall says it is because of the economy.
"I think that because we're trying to pull out of the recession, the retailers are pulling out all the plugs. They're wanting to make this the most successful season we've had in the last 3 years," said Louise Dudley.
A lot of stores are also opening early too. Some will open their doors at 6 or 7 A.M. this week.
Toys 'R' Us may have them all beat. They will stay open 24 hours beginning Wednesday through Christmas Eve.
