A 15-mile stretch of the Steese Highway near Eagle Summit has been closed Thursday evening, with conditions state officials say include blowing winds and drifting snow.

According to the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities, poor weather caused the Steese to be closed from Mile 101 to Mile 116 at about 5:45 p.m. Thursday. Avalanche gates in the area are closed and the road is impassable.

Alaska State Troopers spokesperson Megan Peters says no vehicles in distress have been reported on that stretch of the highway.
