Gov. Sean Parnell amended a disaster declaration Friday which he made after severe windstorms and flooding across Southcentral Alaska last month, expanding it to include the Municipality of Anchorage and a few more parts of the state.
According to a statement from Parnell’s office, the other regions to which the declaration was extended include the Denali Borough and regional educational attendance areas in the Copper River and Yukon-Koyukuk areas.
Areas covered in Parnell’s original Sept. 21 declaration include the Matanuska-Susitna and Kenai Peninsula boroughs, as well as the Alaska Gateway and Chugach REAAs.
Joint assessment teams from the Alaska Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, as well as the Federal Emergency Management Agency, have been conducting damage assessments to determine whether the state should request federal assistance. Some homes in the Mat-Su Borough have been problematic in the process, due to “No Trespassing” signs posted on their properties.
