ELKHART – Fallen police and firefighters are being remembered today as a large group of motorcyclists hit Elkhart County's roads for a big 72-mile ride.
Many of the bikers are active and retired law enforcement men and women who enjoy riding motorcycles, and they want to keep the memories alive of officers who've died in the line of duty.
It's also an event to help local charities.
The Elkhart Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 52 and International Association of Firefighters 338 organized the 14th annual Riding to Remember Fallen Police and Firefighter charity benefit ride.
Money from the event will be used for FOP- and IAFF-sponsored charities like Shop with a Cop, Breakfast with Santa and other programs.
The ride starts at 2:30 p.m. Hoosier Harley Davidson at West Bristol and Michigan St. in Elkhart.
Bikers will stop at the Goshen Police Department for a brief memorial service to honor fallen officers and wind back to where it started.
Participants were being asked to donate $20 each, $30 for a motorcycle with two people.
