KOKOMO, Ind. (AP) — A British filmmaker who's making a documentary of Kokomo says he hopes the lessons about how the city is improving its economy resonate with viewers around the world.

Danny Lomax tells the Kokomo Tribune his hometown of Lower Falinge in Rochdale, England, shares similarities with the central Indiana city. He says a majority of adults of working age in Lower Falinge are without jobs and big manufacturers have closed.

But he says Kokomo has shown that bleak situations can be turned around. The city's unemployment once soared above 20 percent but is now just under 12 percent, and President Barack Obama has hailed it as a success story from the auto bailouts.
