LONG BEACH, Calif. (AP) — A Long Beach, Calif., police anti-gang detective has been shot and wounded as he drove in a squad car with another officer.
Spokesman Sgt. Rico Fernandez says 60 to 70 officers have spread out in the MacArthur Park area and were searching early Sunday for a suspect or suspects.
Fernandez tells The Associated Press that two officers were riding in a car near Anaheim Street and Gundry Avenue shortly before midnight Saturday when a gunman opened fire, hitting a detective in the upper body.
Fernandez says the detective has been hospitalized and the wound is not believed to be life-threatening.
No other details on the injured officer were released.
