SOUTH BEND -- The location probably sounds a little counterintuitive.
But the new Medpoint Express convenient care clinic located inside
Memorial Hospital is actually seeing more patients after 30 days than
the clinics located inside retail stores.
Memorial also operates Medpoint Express locations at Martin's Super
Markets stores in Erskine Plaza in South Bend and at 3900 E. Bristol
St., Elkhart, as well as the Valparaiso Walmart supercenter. But this
is its first clinic-in-a-hospital.
"We didn't know what to expect," Chris Endres, senior director of
operations at Memorial Health System, said about the new location. "We
did not have any research to show whether this would be successful or
not.
"But to do great things, occasionally you have to say, 'I'm not sure
this will work, but we think it has value and there's a need so we're
going to give it a try,'" he said.
Each clinic provides nurse practitioners who provide treatment of
minor acute ailments ranging from sinus infections to poison ivy to
pink eye. Most treatments and procedures cost $69; patients can view
the menu board of services and prices at the front desk at each site.
