We have an update on the investigation into the death of an 84-year-old Mishawaka woman.
Lois Hickey was found dead in her home on East Donaldson in Mishawaka days before the new year. At a news conference Thursday afternoon, Metro Homicide said they still don't have a suspect, but they do know whoever killed Hickey is male.
They found a large amount of blood at the scene investigators believe may have been from her attacker. No match was found in the state's DNA database, but tests show the blood to be from a man.
Mishawaka police want people to know they are working to make the neighborhood safer.
"We have had extra patrols,” said Mishawaka Police Chief Kenneth Witkowski. “Although all the time we might not use marked patrol cars, so some people might not think we're out there, but we're out there 24/7."
The blood sample is being sent to the national DNA database to see if there is a match there. Police urge anyone with information to contact Metro Homicide, Mishawaka Police or Crime Stoppers.
