Olivia Munn has the "Perfect" part ... and to a big extent, she owes it to Tina Fey.
The former co-host of G4's "Attack of the Show!" -- who's also a correspondent now on Comedy Central's "The Daily Show With Jon Stewart"-- is in the ensemble cast of the NBC sitcom "Perfect Couples." It has its official debut Thursday, Jan. 20, following its preview showing just before Christmas.
Munn plays a self-help-spouting wife who's half of one of the show's three central couples, all of whom grapple with issues in their respective relationships.
"Not long ago, I was dying to get a Taco Bell commercial," Munn reflects, "then cut to this pilot season, when I was offered five different shows. I was looking through all of them, trying to make the best decision. What I've learned is that simplicity of writing is very hard to do."
It comes in large part from the sitcom veterans who are executive producing "Perfect Couples": Scott Silveri ("Friends"), Andy Ackerman ("Seinfeld") and Jon Pollack ("30 Rock").
Thanks largely to two of Pollack's former colleagues, Fey and fellow "30 Rock" executive producer Robert Carlock, Munn got the "Perfect Couples" call. She says the producers "explained to me they had written the role with me in mind, because Tina and Robert had suggested me to them."
Still, Munn admits she almost jinxed the meeting. "I told (the producers), 'I'm in this thing where I don't look people up; I just go by the material ... so can you guys tell me what you've done before?' That's, like, the worst thing to do to somebody. Finally, Pollack went, 'Um, I'll take the lead on this.' And then I was like, 'OK. One day, you guys are gonna make it.' "
